Food is fundamental. It nourishes us and brings us together, but what we eat is also the thing most likely to make us sick. Knowing where it comes from and what's in it is increasingly important but impossible. Making a smoothie, salad, pasta dish, or cup of tea from fresh, clean ingredients from your yard can fill you up with so much more than just calories.
Permaculture is about working with nature, not fighting against it. Almost every job in the garden can be done by a plant, bird, bug, or microorganism if we thoughtfully design systems that mimic natural ones. The result is clean, abundant food with no pesticides, herbicides, chemical fertilizers, less frequent watering, and less work in general.
I started Front Yard Food because growing food changed my life.
For nearly 20 years I lived the corporate life in which my goal increasingly became to 'make it' to the next weekend, vacation, or to retirement. All the while, I missed many joyful moments with my family because I wasn't physically or mentally present and I made unhealthy choices because I was too busy.
While "between jobs" I fell in love with gardening. My desire to grow food sustainably led me to a Permaculture Design Certificate Program at Oregon State. Being more connected with nature, eating healthier food, and focusing my energy on living smaller and more local has brought balance to my life, and I want to share that with my neighbors.
My wife Cheryl is the one who got me into plants, my biggest supporter, and runs our social media and social lives. My sons Finnegan, Jameson, and Connor are good sports about trying new fruits and veggies (sometimes) and hopefully future extra hands in my garden and yours.

Yup, we'll do that too. And decks, roofs, side yards, patios, or anywhere else that gets sun and rain.
Yes and no. The most time consuming parts are planning and building your garden, which we will do for you. And we specialize in permaculture techniques so nature works hard for you. Creating something that you can realistically and joyfully maintain will be a big part of the design process.
Grow fruit! Or You can grow nuts, herbs, and flowers. But also, veggies from your own garden taste totally different. Maybe ripening in the back of truck on a busy highway isn't ideal?
